SUMMARY

The Dir Clinical Nurse Midwifery provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the midwifery service. Support staff development, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. Performs comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, orders, conduct, supervises, interprets diagnostic and laboratory tests and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of obstetrical and gynecologic conditions. Collaborate with other health care professionals to treat and manage obstetrical conditions. Primary responsibility of managing pregnant patients who seek care in the Family Birth Center under the supervision of the Labor and Delivery supervising attending. Provide prenatal education, support, and attend childbirth. Provides care to women during normal pregnancies and deliveries and calls on obstetricians or other physicians if complications develop. Evaluate and manage gynecological conditions under the supervision of a physician.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead and manage the midwifery department, overseeing hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance evaluations.

  1. Collaborate with nursing,  obstetric, and hospital leadership to develop and implement policies, procedures, and care models.

  3. Maintain clinical practice as a certified nurse-midwife, modeling evidence-based care.

  4.  Implement quality improvement initiatives based on clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and risk metrics.

  5.  Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with academic programs.

  6.  Identify opportunities for service expansion, innovation, and community engagement.

  7. Performs duties related to midwifery including gynecological exams, preconception care, prenatal care, labor and delivery care, care after birth, newborn care, disease prevention, family planning, health maintenance counseling, and menopausal management.

  8. Manage staffing models to align with patient volume, acuity, and institutional goals.

Clinical Time 80%

  1.  Evaluates and treats gynecological health conditions in the ambulatory setting. Consults with a physician as needed.

  2. Participates in continuation performance improvement activities and develop criteria for and evaluates the quality of care and effectiveness.

  3. Assists supervising physicians in institutional settings, including review of treatment plans, differential diagnosis, ordering tests, and diagnostic laboratory/ radiologic services, and bedside procedures.

  4. Conduct midwifery in training, physician in training, and resident physician rounds, implement patient management plans, record progress notes,  and provide continuity of care.

  5. Provides consultation to staff nurses, medical staff, and interdisciplinary colleagues, utilizing advanced clinical expertise, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to influence the plan of care for patients/families, optimizing clinical outcomes, enhancing the abilities of others, and effecting changes in the system.

     

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five years' experience as a clinical nurse midwife.
  • Two to three years' experience coordinating Midwifery Care Teams
  • Master's or Doctorate in Nurse Midwifery, Health Administration, or Nursing Leadership
  • Board certified by American Midwifery Certification Board
  • Registered Nurse in State of Georgia
  • Involvement in developing clinical driven protocols, guidelines, and quality improvement initiative
  • Previous preceptorship of students, residents and junior midwives
  • Experience in leading or participating in interdisciplinary committees related to maternal child health.

PREFERRED:

  •  Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Basic Life Support (BLS)
  •  Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification
  •  Previous experience as a labor and delivery RN
  •  Previous Charge Nurse or Lead Midwife role, which included resource allocation or staff scheduling
