SUMMARY:

The Trauma Quality Specialist reports to the Trauma Program Manager and provides quality surveillance through event identification, investigation, reporting, and follow-up for loop closure for the trauma patient population at Grady. Collaborates with physicians, consultants, and multi-disciplinary trauma team members to assure high quality patient outcomes across the continuum of care. Assists in coordinating routine activities associated with the Grady Health System Trauma Registry, including data gathering, data abstraction/entry, coding, data analysis, data validation and maintenance, report producing/creating. In addition to serving as a liaison with other departments and outside agencies, the Trauma Quality Specialist supports relationships with, and submission of data to, the National Trauma Data Standard (NTDS), Georgia Department of Public Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma (OEMS&T), and the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for maintenance of state designation, national verification, as well as national benchmarking.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Five (5) or more years job related experience including RN experience caring for high acuity trauma patients (i.e., ED, periop, ICU).
  • Experience participating in clinical performance improvement activities.
  • Experience leading projects and/or teams.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification 
  • Current Registered Nurse in State of Georgia.
  • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist Certification (CAISS); if new to Grady Trauma Program, CAISS Certification within 4 years of hire.
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)/Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN), or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) required within 3 years of hire.
  • Successful completion of Trauma Nursing Core Course Certification (TNCC) or the Advanced Trauma Care Nurses (ATCN) within 18 months of hire.
  • Completion of Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) course within 18 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry Certification (CSTR) within 5 years of hire.
  • Successful completion of Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry Certification (CSTR) within 5 years of hire.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills with a focus on maintaining relationships.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Motivated to acquire new skills and knowledge while working under pressure.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and navigation of the Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • ICD-10 coding familiarity.
