Job Summary

The Interpreter Operations Coordinator serves as the point person for receiving interpreter requests and efficiently disseminating/scheduling interpreters or additional communication support services/devices to the requested locations throughout Grady hospital in order to fulfill patient/provider language needs. Knowledge of effective communication policies and regulations as well as the concording language aid or service is required. Responsibilities include data management and report productions targeting the provision and documentation of qualified medical interpretation of non-English preferred language and Deaf patients. Registration support for candidates wishing to enroll in courses or internship programs offered by the Language Interpretive Services department. Minor financial responsibilities include monitoring the cost-effectiveness of contracted services and appointment cancellations as well as invoicing services provided to research study programs. This position does not have direct reports. This position works closely with the Medical Interpreters in the Language Interpretive Services department and reports to the department Director.

The position requires an organized, self-starting individual who has excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to problem- solve, and manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast pace setting. The individual must be able to tactfully and effectively communicate operational information with physicians, coworkers, patients, families, and other individuals both within and outside the hospital. The ability to speak a secondary non-English language is not required.

Job Responsibilities  

30% - Serves as a knowledgeable resource for Grady staff inquiries regarding all effective communications services and policies. Prioritizes requests and assigns interpreters to fulfill needs while maximizing efficiency and response time. Fields incoming calls and responds to questions regarding medical interpretation training courses and internship program and assists with course enrollment and fluency testing requirements. Demonstrates service excellence behaviors routinely in encounters with all customers. Monitors process & follows up on identified patient language needs daily.

30% - Receives and inputs interpretation service requests into computerized database. Maintain accurate monthly and yearly totals of in-person interpreter requests, minutes, and cancellations. Creates monthly vendor reports of our phone and video interpretation services. Proactively identifies area of opportunity & proposes potential solutions. Routinely works with sensitive or confidential information, documents and issues.

20% - Assist in ensuring fiscal responsibility in assigning contracted vendor or PRN pool interperters to fullfill language needs. Tracks the usage of interpretation services and intervenes in a timely manner to make sure services are used appropriately and cost-effectively system wide. Assists in processing & reconciling of invoices; Identifies inaccurate charges or billing discrepancies; and Maintains and organizes invoice records for tracking/trending as needed.

15% - Provides "on the spot" education over the phone to staff about available interpretation & translation resources & how to access resources. Educates staff on policies & law regarding interpreter use as appropriate.

5% - Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Education

Required:

High School Diploma or GED.

 

Preferred: Associate's Degree.

 

Experience

Required:

One (1) or more year’s job related experience in a high volume healthcare environment. Must possess strong Excel skills.
