Summary
The primary responsibility of a Prior Authorization Pharmacy Technician is to submit prior authorization (PA) requests to any pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) in hopes to gain approval for pharmacy dispensed treatments. PA technicians are also expected to document their activities, coordinate filling of medications, as well as communicate with providers and patients.
Reports to the Director of Retail and Specialty Pharmacy Services.
Job Duties:
Complete prior authorization, for any Grady Health System patient
- Submit prior authorization requests to PBM
- Submit appeals for denied PAs
- Facilitate the filling process for meds approved
Document activities in the medical record
- Write clinical notes, documenting approval, denial, etc as needed.
Communicate with patients, providers and pharmacy personnel
- Call patients to notify of status, as needed
- Discuss with providers and pharmacy personnel, as needed
Ensure accurate billing practices in retail locations
- Rebill claims, as needed
- Staff in retail locations, as needed
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) or more year job related experience including retail pharmacy technician.
- Registered pharmacy technician-GA
Preferred
- One (1) or more year job related experience including Prior Authorization experience.
- CPhT
